Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide the Medicine Bow Conservation District with information and technical assistance to contribute to natural resource conservation as well as to improve the quality of life for all our residents.

History

Medicine Bow Conservation District celebrates 57 years of service to Carbon County and the State of Wyoming.  The District was established in 1954 as the Water and Soil Conservation District No. 41.  Through our objectives and goals there has been an increased effort to educate and assist our producers and partners to develop good conservation practices now and for future generations.

Authority and Jurisdiction

The Districts authority lies within the Board of Supervisors, which is comprised of five elected officials, three rural, one urban, and one at large.  They are elected to four year terms by the voters of Carbon County, Wyoming.  The District is classified as a Special District pursuant to W.S. 11-16-122 (iv) and (xvi) of the Wyoming Conservation Districts Law.

The Board’s jurisdiction is bordered by Natrona County Conservation District to the North, Laramie Rivers Conservation District to the East and South, Saratoga Encampment, Rawlins Conservation Districts to the South and West with approximately 1,503,700 acres in our boundaries.

The five communities in the District are Medicine Bow, Hanna, Elk Mountain, Leo, and McFadden/Arlington serving an estimated population base of 900 residents.  50.4% of the land is local, state and federally owned while 49.6% is under private control.  The land use is designated Residential, Agricultural, and Mining.  The multiple-use aspect of the District makes it very diverse.
